Cella Milano

Cella Milano has been producing luxury shaving and beard products for both consumers and professional hairdressers in Milan, Italy, since 1899. The smiley iconic ambassador of Cella Milano, Felice, has already conquered many Italian fashion houses. Meanwhile, he is busy conquering the rest of the world with their delicious shaving and beard products.

The origins of Cella Milano

When Cella Milano started producing shaving and beard products in the late 19th century, Milan was a bustling city full of trendy cafés, electric lights and theatres. The city was filled with clean-shaven men or men with handlebar mustaches who visited their favorite barber shop every week to pamper themselves and chat about anything and everything.

From 1910, Cella Milano's shaving cream began to become very popular among the professional hairdressers of the time. Its unique, super-concentrated formula set Cella Milano's shaving cream apart from other brands and was well received by hairdressers and their clients. At that time it was common for hairdressers to give their clients a pocket-sized calendar with holidays and working days marked on it. This calendar was also the perfect way for shaving brands to advertise.

From barbershop to the bathroom

The safety razor as we know it today only became popular during the First World War. The American soldiers needed the razors , where you could easily change the blade, to shave facial hair when they had to use gas masks.

This was the beginning of a "revolution" in the shaving world. The shaving ritual for which you normally went to the hairdresser or barber moved to your own bathroom where you could shave yourself. Cella Milano naturally responded to this and decided to create packaging that would stand out among the other shaving products. This became a brightly colored package with a cheerful man shaving himself in his pajamas (which was a link to shaving in your own bathroom). The logo is still on the packaging of Cella Milano to this day.
